Most parents never have to wonder if their child will sit up, stand, take their first steps, or say their first words.

They don't spend months living between home and the hospital. They don't bring their newborn home two months after birth. They don't juggle countless specialist appointments, nursing schedules, therapies, and long hospital stays, all while trying to give their child the best life possible.

But Leighton's parents do.

Leighton is an incredible eight-year-old with the brightest smile and a spirit that shines through every challenge she faces. Born with an extremely rare genetic condition involving chromosome 19, she has spent her entire life overcoming obstacles most of us can't imagine. Her life may not look "typical," but it is every bit as beautiful, meaningful, and deserving of every opportunity.

Last year, something extraordinary happened.

Through a social media contest, Leighton was given the opportunity to use a Trexo robotic walking device for one year. For the first time, her family watched her take her own steps. They watched her walk beside her brothers and sisters. They experienced a milestone that many families celebrate when their child is one—but for Leighton, it happened at eight years old.

It was nothing short of life-changing.

Now that year has come to an end.

To continue giving Leighton the opportunity to walk, we need to purchase the Trexo. While one incredible foundation has generously contributed $10,000 toward the cost, more than $35,000 still needs to be raised. Insurance does not cover this equipment, and despite both of her parents working full-time while raising five children, this is simply a cost they cannot manage alone.

Funds raised will go directly toward purchasing Leighton's Trexo device and helping make their home more accessible, including the addition of a ramp so she can safely get in and out of the house.

For most of us, walking is something we never think twice about.

For Leighton, every step is a victory.
