Leia and her three brothers were found being given away in a Walmart parking lot. They were taken in by a rescue at 9 weeks old. Months after losing our 9 year old American Staffordshire, Loki, we decided we were ready to foster puppies that were looking for their furever home. We started fostering Leia when she was 14 weeks. A few months later we adopted her.

Leia has always been a bright spot in our lives. She was the first dog we welcomed into our hearts after saying goodbye to our beloved Loki, who passed away from liver cancer. At just 3 years old, Leia is truly our baby, and seeing her struggle these past few weeks has been heartbreaking. She’s lost weight, become lethargic, and has barely been eating or drinking. We rushed her to the vet, where they ran bloodwork and now suspect she may have Addison’s disease. The next step is a special test to confirm the diagnosis, but the cost is difficult for us to manage right now.

On top of Leia’s health crisis, our family has been facing financial hardship. My husband lost his job in January, and while he just started a new job, we are still waiting on approval for food stamps and unemployment. Funds are very limited, making it even harder to cover Leia’s urgent medical needs. We also have three children—ages 18, 10, and 2—who love Leia dearly and are worried about her.

If Leia does have Addison’s, she’ll need monthly injections and ongoing treatment for the rest of her life. Every dollar raised will go directly toward her testing and care, giving her the best chance at a healthy, happy future. Leia means the world to us, and we can’t imagine losing her too.
