Update on Left Eye October 13, 2025

This isn’t the update we were hoping for… After being discharged from the ER, Left Eye’s breathing struggles continued. Her incredible foster-turned-mom has spent sleepless nights and thousands of dollars trying to help her get better.

After a CT scan and culture, we learned she has Aspergillus niger — a rare and aggressive fungal infection found in black mold and decaying matter/bodies. It’s heartbreaking to think of what she must have gone through or had to see just trying to survive on the streets!!

This diagnosis is serious, but we’re not giving up on her. Left Eye is a fighter, and we’re doing everything we can to help her pull through.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers — and if you’re able, share her story or donate to her care. Every bit of love and support means the world.

Hi everyone,

I created this fundraiser on behalf of a dear coworker of mine and a very special little soul named Left Eye. Left Eye is just a 1-year-old Dutch Shepherd with the sweetest, most gentle heart. Only a few weeks ago, she was placed on Prince George’s euthanasia list, her life nearly cut short before it had even begun.

She was saved by ECHO Rescue and placed with her foster—my coworker, who wishes to remain unnamed for safety reasons. From the very first day, though, Left Eye has been sick with an upper respiratory infection, something far too common for dogs who spend time in shelters. My coworker, a licensed veterinary technician, immediately reached out to the rescue for help, asking again and again for the care Left Eye so clearly needed.

ECHO did cover two veterinary visits for her, but in both cases the veterinarians concluded that Left Eye required emergency care. Despite these recommendations, the rescue continued to dismiss my coworker’s concerns and chose not to pursue the urgent treatment that was advised. Meanwhile, Left Eye’s condition worsened—she is now in pain and struggling to breathe. Watching her suffer has been heartbreaking.

Today, my coworker made the selfless decision to adopt Left Eye—not because she was ready, but because it was the only way to finally get her the medical care she deserves. While Left Eye is now safe in loving hands, the financial burden of her treatment is overwhelming. The estimate below shows just how much is needed to get her the help she requires.

Rescues are supposed to be safety nets for animals like Left Eye, but too often these vulnerable babies fall through the cracks. We refuse to let that happen to her. She has already been failed once, and she deserves so much better.

If you can, please consider donating—even the smallest amount will make a difference. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing her story means the world. Together, we can give Left Eye the chance at life she was so close to losing.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for caring about her.

update: we have lowered the goal, left eye is improving, not out of the woods yet because poor girl still is having some respiratory concerns but we are happy with her progress!!
