UPDATE:Not that long ago Leah was hospitalized as we know from this gofund me being started but now we have been unfortunately placed under some more bad news Leah’s Crohn’s isn’t doing good still even with the steroid from last visit it has just been progressively getting worse and now she is unable to leave hospital due to the Crohn’s not being under control and the risk that come they’d like to try and see if they can manage her pain and keep her comfortable until they decide on a date to take baby but as she’s only 33 weeks tomorrow they are giving her another new steroid to help the baby’s lungs develop so when they take her she hopefully will have better results with breathing and things but they also have to wait and do some more growth scans of babygirl as she is low birth weight right now and has been due to Leah unfortunately not being able to eat and her body not holding nutrients and again we ask you share say a prayer even times are tough for everyone and we know that we are just trying to make sure that she can have her fiancé and her kids visit her as the weeks go on so she isn’t alone
My name is Carla. I’ve been around Leah her whole life, have loved her, and cared for her and her babies. We call one another family as we have always been around one another. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in June as she was rushed to the ER due to what we all thought was her appendix. But unfortunately, with further testing, it was Crohn’s disease, which hasn’t been an easy diagnosis for her. She was then prescribed steroids, which unfortunately she had a very bad reaction to. They then placed her in the hospital to try another steroid, and she still wasn’t able to tolerate it. So they told her they were not an option due to an allergy, which was hard because steroids help with the inflammation of the Crohn’s. But not being able to take that, they decided to have her go ahead and start a strong infusion of medicine for the Crohn’s. It still wasn’t working, and she was still being hospitalized. She also found out she was pregnant in the middle of all this happening. Her doctors thought maybe the baby would help bring her into remission, but that wasn’t the case. They upped the infusion, and it still hadn’t worked. So they did an MRI last week, and today they called with news she didn’t want to hear, as did none of us… they told her the Crohn’s has gotten so bad in her small intestines that she needed surgery, but they can’t do it with the baby. He didn’t feel comfortable with that, so now she has been faced with leaving her small children at home with family while she is hospitalized to try and see if another steroid will work before they resort to taking this baby and performing surgery on her small intestine. I know this is a lot on her mental and her partner Q, as he has taken off work to make sure she isn’t alone. But with that being said, she’s gonna need help with keeping things moving, such as Q being able to get back and forth to Vermont as she needs someone with her. If you can donate, please, anything helps, but if you can’t, just pray! She needs all the support she can get in this dark time. She has been struggling with feeling like she’s failing as a mother and her body failing her unborn baby. We have all been reassuring her that’s not the case.
