My name is Nicholas Goodman, and I am writing this on behalf of my mother, Leah Goodman.

Last week, my mother’s life was suddenly and violently changed. While driving on the highway, another driver attempted to cross the roadway and struck her vehicle. The impact was devastating. Her car was destroyed, and my mother suffered a catastrophic injury—her right arm was shattered, requiring multiple surgeries. She is still recovering and currently has no use of that arm, with a long and uncertain recovery ahead.

My mother lives alone and has always supported herself by working as a self-employed house cleaner. Because of this accident, she cannot work at all. There is no sick leave, no short-term disability, and no backup income. Overnight, she went from being independent to having no way to earn a living.

As if this weren’t enough, her living situation has also become unsafe. The floor in her home has partially collapsed, leaving her struggling not only with pain and disability, but with the fear of losing the only place she has to live.

Our family is doing everything we can to help, but our resources are limited. I am currently overseas and unable to be there physically for her. I’ve exhausted what I can financially, and even combined, it is not enough to cover her medical recovery, basic living expenses, and housing needs during this crisis.

Right now, my mother is in a truly desperate situation—injured, unable to work, living alone, and facing mounting bills with no clear path forward. This GoFundMe is a way for me to help her survive this moment and give her a chance to recover with dignity, stability, and hope.
