Help Lazar Heal

A little over a month ago, our co-worker's husband Lazar was rushed to the emergency room for chest pains. He ended up having an aortic resection and then a stroke. Already born with one hand, the stroke has drastically affected the function of the other one. It has also caused paralysis in his legs. The doctors are optimistic that with physical therapy he will eventually regain some function of his extremities. However, it will be a very long process with no guarantees.

Meanwhile, our co-worker Gracie and their fifteen year old daughter are virtually alone in handling everything. Their daughter is so young and still in school so she is limited in how much she can help. This puts most of the burden on Gracie. She has expressed that the bills are piling up and that she does not know where to turn. She is a hardworking phlebotomist that has been faced with many of the hardships all of us healthcare workers have experienced over the last year and a half. She showed up everyday and bravely did her job despite the risks of COVID-19. She even battled and survived the illness herself.

Right now, Lazar is in a nursing facility recovering from his heart surgery. He is fighting to be well enough to go to physical therapy. This page was started by her co-workers to let her and Lazar know that they are not alone and to help them through this tough time.
