Welcome Friends. As many of you know, on May 7, 2020 I suffered a Massive Stoke. This resulted in a complete loss of my left side, from my neck to my toes.
Physical therapy started immediately after leaving the Hospital, focusing on regaining movement of major muscle groups then on to coordination of hand and fingers.
To date I have regained about 50% usage and strength of my left arm and hand, slightly less on my leg and foot. Recovery has stalled and ongoing progress has been extremely slow last couple months. Based on medical research this is common after about 9 months. Any further recovery will be very slow.
My wife has been a great inspiration to me and has had an enormous burden placed upon her through this ordeal. My family has been hit hard with a "Daddy" that is, as they like to tease me, "Half the Man he used to be". When the stoke happened, I had a thriving Contractor/Handyman business that provided a substantial supplement to our income. This had to be shut down as I can no longer do this type of work.
There is hope on the horizon:
There is a new procedure that has proven to provide significant improvements with recovery from this type of Stroke. The procedure is a series of two or three injections of a drug typically used for severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. the procedure, known as "Perispinal Etanercept for Post-Stroke Neurological and Cognitive Dysfunction" and developed by the Institute of Neurological Recovery, this procedure has been independently tested and validated at over 90% effective.
Here is where this page comes into play.
The procedure is not covered by insurance and requires two sessions with the probability of a third. The procedures are $8000 each. I have pulled together the payment for the first procedure and am looking for some help in funding the others. When I first suffered the stoke many friends and family were asking what they could do to help out. Several provided meals, helped with physical therapy, helped other obligations or simply stopped by to visit. I am very grateful to everyone that was there in the beginning, and hope that this procedure will bring a close to a very difficult chapter in my life and for my entire family.
