Our beloved mother—known to many of you as Laylani, Laynie, Auntie, or simply “Mom”—was diagnosed with Stage III Triple Negative Breast Cancer in December 2024. This aggressive form of cancer has turned our world upside down, but our family is fighting beside her every step of the way.

After her diagnosis, we brought her back home to California so she could receive the best possible care at UCSF, where her treatment journey began. However, the financial toll of fighting cancer is overwhelming. Early in treatment, her insurance wasn’t active, leaving us responsible for extensive out-of-pocket medical expenses. And now, as of June 15, her employer has terminated both her medical coverage and prorated disability insurance, stripping away critical support at a time she needs it most.

Despite these challenges, our mom remains strong, faithful, and full of hope.

She still has several more months of treatment ahead—followed by surgery and a long recovery—but she’s determined to return to the life she loves: surrounded by family, dancing with her Zumba community, and spreading the joy and light she’s known for.
