Help lay Tío Alex to rest. Everyone’s favorite TÍO ❤️

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved Alex Martinez, also known as “Tío” to many. Tío was not just an uncle, he was a father figure to his three nieces who he raised as his own and loved dearly. He was also the best caregiver to his mother and niece who both sadly passed away, but he continued to show his commitment to his family even in the toughest times.

Tío was a selfless person who was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. He dedicated several years volunteering at Acacia and Maple Elementary, where he touched the lives of countless children and families.

Everyone loved Tío’s blunt sense of humor. He had a unique way of lightening up any room with his jokes and playful spirits, making him the life of every party. One of his most cherished talents was baking. He was famous for his delicious cookies, cakes, and brownies. Through baking, Tío expressed his love and care for those around him.

Unfortunately, Tío faced significant health challenges in recent years silently. He battled rheumatoid arthritis for a few years, a condition that ultimately led to pulmonary fibrosis. This progressive disease causes the growth of scar tissue in the lungs making it increasingly difficult for him to breathe. Just over a month ago, he developed a lung infection that further complicated his health struggles and made breathing even more challenging.

During his hospitalization, Tío fought for 14 days. On the 5th day, despite receiving the maximum oxygen support, he struggled to breathe and was placed into a medical induced coma. He was put on a ventilator to assist with his breathing. Tragically during this time, his kidneys began to fail as well. He remained on life support with maximum ventilator capacity and 24/7 continuous dialysis until he gained his wings on December 10, 2024.

During this heartbreaking time, we are reaching out for support to honor Tío’s memory and assist with funeral expenses. In addition to these expenses, Tío leaves behind a home that the family unfortunately will not be able to keep. They’re facing the difficult task of having to clear out Tio’s house in a matter of weeks with the possibility of having to place most of the belongings in a storage facility. Part of your donation will assist his niece’s with all moving expenses and storage fees.
