Helping Lay to Rest a Man Who Never Stopped Serving
Robert Bumbrey spent his entire life giving. Giving his time, his words, his heart, and his faith to everyone he encountered. For right at 50 years, he served as a preacher, pastor, and teacher, pouring himself into his community and his calling without reservation. But Robert didn't limit his ministry to a church building. Those who knew him at Giant Food in Spotsylvania knew him as something special. A beloved coworker who brought his faith and warmth with him wherever he went. Friends came to lovingly call him the "parking lot pastor," because whether you were a colleague, a customer, or a stranger passing through, Robert had a kind word, a warm smile, and a way of making you feel like you mattered. Because to him, you did. Everyone was a friend. Everyone was worth his time.
Robert also gave deeply of himself to the Greater Fredericksburg Emmaus Community, where he served as a Spiritual Director, walking alongside many pilgrims as they made their own Walk and grew in their faith. To those he guided, his presence was a steady, grace filled gift. The kind that stays with you long after the weekend is over. Robert was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a cherished uncle. His family was his anchor, and his faith was his compass.
Now, as we say goodbye to this extraordinary man, his family is faced with the weight of funeral and burial expenses during an already unimaginably difficult time. Any contribution, large or small, will go directly toward honoring Robert with the farewell he deserves, and will lift a very real burden from the shoulders of his wife Jenn and their family. If Robert ever brightened your day in a parking lot, in a pew, on a Walk, or simply in passing, this is a chance to give a little of that light back.
