My neighbor, Richard Gruba, passed away recently. For the past ten years, I lived next to Richard and got to know him well. He was a spirited man who lived alone, without family or friends who visited or include him in their lives. Over the years, our conversations over the backyard fence became a regular occurrence. Through these conversations, I learned he was indeed alone in this world. As time went on, I found myself helping Richard with yard work, snow removal, holiday meals, and errands—just trying to make sure he was taken care of health wise and that he didn't feel all alone.
Now, with Richard gone, there is no one else to make sure he receives a proper resting place. I have been working with the police, the medical examiner, the county burial assistance program and Summit Funeral Home getting everything in place, so Richard is taken care of one more time. I have already raised most of the funds needed, but I am still short of what is required to cover the casket, cemetery plot, and a small headstone. Richard's burial costs are $4200. So far, I have gathered $3000.
If you are able to help, even in a small way, it would mean so much to give Richard a respectful goodbye. Your support will ensure that someone who might otherwise be forgotten is remembered and/or considered as people walk by his burial site visiting their family members and friends. I appreciate any help any of you give. If you want to hear about Richard, give me a call! I can tell you more about him and his spirited ways!
