Gary Lee McNeal, lovingly known as "Papa," "Grumpy Pants #1," and "Grandpa Spiders," passed away on February 24, 2026, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, at the age of 72. Born on December 27, 1953, in Holdrege, Nebraska, Gary lived a life defined by hard work, generosity, and an unmistakable sense of humor. He met the love of his life, Deborah, in Scottsbluff, and together they built a family filled with love and laughter, raising four children: Shannon, Crystal, April, and Christopher.
Gary dedicated over four decades to farming, working alongside friends in Torrington, Wyoming. Even after retiring in 2021 due to health concerns, he stayed active by repairing lawn mowers and tending to his garden. His unique personality shone through his love for collecting eagles and Elvis Presley memorabilia. Gary was known for never meeting a stranger—he had a rare gift for turning acquaintances into friends, always ready with a helping hand or a hearty laugh.
In January, Gary was diagnosed with cancer, but his passing came suddenly after a brief hospital stay for complications related to his heart and fluid retention. The loss has left our family heartbroken and facing unexpected expenses. While Gary had a small life insurance policy, there is still a gap to cover the costs of his funeral, burial, and church services. We would deeply appreciate any donations or sharing of this fundraiser to help us lay my dad to rest and honor his memory. Your support means the world to our family during this difficult time.
