It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Florentino Nieves Rivera, age 75, of Reading, who left us on Monday, April 14, 2025, at St. Joseph Medical Center.

Florentino was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. Born on June 20, 1949, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Casimiro Nieves and Micaela Rivera. He was the devoted husband of Rosa Vega, and the proud father of six children and eleven grandchildren who brought him immeasurable joy.

A self-employed mechanic throughout his working years, Florentino was a man of strength and tireless dedication. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it was under the hood of a car or in the lives of those around him. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, collecting coins, working on cars, recording family memories, and reading the newspaper each day to keep up with the world.

Florentino’s love for his family was the core of who he was. He cherished time spent with his family and close friends—sharing stories, laughter, good food, and a deep sense of connection. He was a family man in every way, and his presence will be missed beyond words.

The last couple of months have been especially difficult. After suffering a fall that led to a serious brain injury, we take comfort in knowing that his fight is over, and that he can now rest in peace.

We are now faced with the emotional and financial burden of laying him to rest. We want nothing more than to honor him with the dignity, love, and peace he deserves.

Con el corazón roto compartimos la triste noticia del fallecimiento de Florentino Nieves Rivera, de 75 años, residente de Reading, quien partió de este mundo el lunes, 14 de abril de 2025, en el St. Joseph Medical Center.

Florentino fue un esposo amoroso, padre, abuelo, tío, hermano y amigo. Nació el 20 de junio de 1949 en Cayey, Puerto Rico, hijo de los ya fallecidos Casimiro Nieves y Micaela Rivera. Fue el dedicado esposo de Rosa Vega y un orgulloso padre de seis hijos y abuelo de once nietos que le brindaron una alegría inmensa.

Trabajó por cuenta propia como mecánico durante toda su vida laboral. Florentino fue un hombre fuerte y de incansable dedicación. Siempre estaba dispuesto a ofrecer una mano amiga, ya fuera arreglando un auto o apoyando a quienes lo rodeaban. En su tiempo libre disfrutaba de ir a pescar, coleccionar monedas, trabajar en carros, grabar memorias familiares, y leer el periódico todos los días para mantenerse al tanto del mundo.

El amor de Florentino por su familia era el centro de su vida. Valoraba profundamente los momentos compartidos con sus seres queridos y amigos cercanos—contando historias, riendo, disfrutando buena comida y creando lazos que nunca se romperán. Fue un hombre de familia en todo el sentido de la palabra, y su ausencia se sentirá más allá de lo que las palabras pueden expresar.

Los últimos meses han sido especialmente difíciles. Tras sufrir una caída que le causó una grave lesión cerebral, hicimos todo lo posible por apoyarlo y cuidar de él. Aunque nos duele profundamente su partida, encontramos consuelo en saber que su lucha ha terminado y que ahora puede descansar en paz.

Ahora enfrentamos la carga emocional y financiera de darle el último adiós. Si pueden colaborar con cualquier cantidad, su apoyo significará el mundo para nuestra familia y será destinado directamente a cubrir los gastos del funeral y el entierro. No deseamos nada más que honrarlo con la dignidad, el amor y la paz que él tanto merecía.

Desde el fondo de nuestro corazón, gracias por tenernos en sus pensamientos y oraciones durante este momento tan difícil.
