Help Lay David Oliver to Rest

Donation protected
On June 21, David Hussey (better known as David Oliver) passed away after a long and hard-fought battle against lung illness. In 2013, David survived a double lung transplant, 3 cardiac arrests, and an extended stay in the hospital. In 2018, he developed squamous cell skin cancer in his head and required extensive surgery to have part of his face removed and replaced with a skin graph from his leg. David survived through all of this, and even though the life expectancy of a double-lung recipient was only 3 years, he defied the odds and lived 10 years on the new lungs before they began to fail.

In January 2023, David's lungs began to reject and went into acute respiratory failure. He only had 27% lung function by April and was given only a couple of months left to live. Again, David defied the odds and lived another year and a half until June 2024 when his lung issues had become too far beyond recovery. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at MGH and passed away in the early afternoon on the first day of summer.

I am raising funds so I can lay David to rest alongside his parents and older brother, whom he has missed for years. I have set an initial goal of $5000 to offset some of the costs of the funeral services. Any help is appreciated, but I understand some people may not be able or willing to help with this.

Please look back on the good times with David and hold onto those memories fondly. He has helped many people over the years - I hope some may return the favor and help me with laying him to rest.

Thank you.
