I am raising funds for my brother, David Hitt, to help with his funeral and burial expenses after his passing. David was born with Prader Willi syndrome, learning disabilities, and hearing issues, and he faced medical challenges his entire life. After a blood transfusion, he contracted a disease that led to liver failure. Even through all of that, David never let his struggles define him. He chose to spend his life helping others, giving his time, his energy, and his heart to the people around him.
David dreamed of being a firefighter for as long as I can remember, and he was proud to become part of the Vestal Fire Department, helping with auxiliary work and special events whenever he could. He also supported the Endicott and Apalachin fire departments, Vestal EMS, Special Olympics, Challenger Baseball, and the Red Cross. During local floods, David spent countless hours handing out supplies, lifting spirits, and doing whatever he could for neighbors in need. So many people knew him for his kindness, his smile, and his willingness to serve. Even now, strangers still recognize me as David’s younger brother and share stories about how he helped them.
David was deeply loved, and he will be missed by everyone who knew him. I am asking for help to give him the burial he deserves and to ease the financial burden on our family during this heartbreaking time. Any support, no matter the amount, means so much to us. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping our family in your thoughts. Thank you for honoring David’s life and the good he brought to so many.
