In Loving Memory of My Mother, Brandy Lasha Simmons-Cribbs

I’ve been trying to find the right words before I speak, but the truth is, there are no perfect words for something like this. This nightmare has only just begun, and I’m still trying to process it all.

For everyone who loved her, I want to share some details and clarity. My mom, Brandy Lasha Simmons-Cribbs, passed away around 5:58 p.m. on Sunday, October 12th, 2025. She was preparing to move in with me here in Houston to meet and spend time with her newborn grandson. She never made it to the bus station.

Those who truly knew my mother know the battles she fought — and how long and hard she tried to overcome them. I’ve carried the weight of knowing where her struggles might lead, and I’ve had to prepare myself for this reality for many years. I don’t believe my mom chose to leave us; I believe she made a mistake and underestimated her actions.

My mom lost her mom when she was only 13 years old, and I know she’s longed to be with her ever since. The only peace I have right now is believing they’re together again.

My mother was the light in every room — beautiful, strong, resilient, and fiercely stubborn in all the best ways. I see her in myself and my sister, Alexis, every single day. I thank God, and I thank my mom, for the bond my sister and I share and for the strength that runs in our blood.

Alexis is on her way from Florida, and we’ll be planning the arrangements together. I want to give my mom the most beautiful funeral she deserves — because she spent her life facing hardships, and this is the last thing I can do for her. I don’t believe in cremation; it feels too final.

Unfortunately, my sister and I can’t cover all the upfront expenses on our own. Any contribution helps, and everything will go directly toward giving my mom the final celebration she deserves.
