Help Lay Baby Zuri to Rest

My name is Benita Williams and I am the grandmother of Zuri McGhee, a 4-month-old beautiful infant baby girl. My daughter Brenika McGhee (100% disabled Army veteran) is being charged with capital murder in relation to the death of my granddaughter. Zuri unfortunately passed away on April 5, 2025, in Montgomery, AL. Zuri is now being held at the funeral home Phillips and Riley funeral home in Montgomery, Al located at 2284 W. Fairview Ave. Montgomery, Al 36108. Zuri has no way of receiving a proper burial since my daughter Brenika (Zuri's mother) is currently being detained. By Alabama state law, the father is the only one who can sign off on Zuri's burial if the state pays for it through the Alabama Crime Victims Association. Zuri's death has indeed been determined a homicide. Zuri's father, Jamarquois Antonio McGhee, is nowhere to be found and is on the run, and therefore the situation of having Zuri buried lies on myself and the family and friends of the family to give Zuri a proper burial. This is one situation I never could imagine happening and is a complete devastating nightmare. Although I know my daughter Brenika is suffering from extreme PTSD and delusions, I am deeply crying out on Zuri's behalf at the moment. I am asking for any help in regards to donations to put my precious grandbaby to rest. I did all I could to help save my grandbaby and help my mentally ill daughter. Apparently, no matter who you are, if you choose to procreate, the law can't stop a sick-minded person from procreation. It's their right. At 26 years old, I felt in my heart that my daughter Brenika did not need to become a mother due to her mental illness, delusions, PTSD however, I KNOCKED on many doors and made many calls including the VA hospital to prevent any tragedy of this nature. Brenika convinced everyone she was fine and capable of handling motherhood. I can't put into words how heartbroken we all are at the moment. Little to no sleep, not eating, and this situation is taking a toll on our souls.
