Help Lawrence's Spinal Cord Recovery!

Donation protected

Lawrence Moran suffered a life threatening spinal cord injury from a diving accident on Saturday, July 10, 2021 while at the beach. The accident resulted in paralysis from the chest down, impacting his breathing, eating, and every area of his life.

The day of the accident was a perfect beach day at Island Beach State Park. Lawrence was in and out of the water playing with the kids. Like he had done thousands of times before, Lawrence ran and dove into the ocean, however, this time there was a sandbar. According to Lawrence’s recollection, as soon as he broke the surface of the water, he immediately felt his neck snap. While under water he was unable to move any of his limbs so he just held his breath for as long as he could hoping he would be saved before drowning. Lawrence was medevacked to the Jersey Shore Trauma Center where they performed emergency five-hour surgery to stabilize the C4/C5 section of his neck with two rods and a spacer. The result of all this was a compressed spinal cord injury.

Lawrence was transferred to the intensive care unit where he spent the next 17 days. After having breathing complications, he spent the first two weeks on a ventilator and had a diaphragmatic pacer surgery to assist with breathing. He spent the next three weeks regaining basic functions, such as breathing and swallowing. After the three weeks, Lawrence was stable enough to be transferred to Kessler Rehabilitation Center. He has full cognitive function and is now able to breathe on his own and have a normal diet.

This life changing event has taken away most of the use of Lawrence's body. While he continues to maintain a positive attitude and an unwavering drive to make a full recovery, he needs your help on this journey. For those that have the privilege of knowing Lawrence would say he is always a charismatic and energetic person who never backed down from a challenge. Lawrence is facing his biggest challenge yet. Our goal of this fundraiser is to allow Lawrence to focus all of his time and energy on his road to recovery. He is a co-contributor to an apartment that he lives in with his girlfriend, Kristine and her three children. These first few weeks are crucial for Lawrence's recovery process from this devastating injury. Moving forward, he will need financial support to cover inpatient/outpatient, transportation back and forth, special medical devices to shower and medical bills not covered by insurance. He will also need assistance at home. We thank you for any and all help that you can give to help in this unfortunate situation.
