My wife Laurie was diagnosed with cognitive impairment and short-term memory loss in February 2025, shortly after we filed a claim for home care with her insurance. Not long after, she became ill and was hospitalized with a mild stroke and stomach problems. After her release, Laurie spent some time in a rehabilitation facility. Her son visited a few times, and after his last visit, both of her sons hired a lawyer and filed for conservatorship and guardianship, even though I have been caring for her as her husband for over 20 years.
We hired a lawyer to help us with this, but the court case dragged on for months until January 2026. At that time, the lawyers agreed to a limited conservatorship and appointed me as a limited guardian instead of appointing both sons. The time involved in settling this was more than we could handle for our health and mental state. Now, the conservator has taken over all of Laurie's income and retirement funds, making managing our everyday life a challenge. We are planning to hire an attorney to dissolve this court action and help us return to a normal life.
We appreciate any help we can get to get us back to a normal life and be able to function. We are both in our 80s and would like to live out the rest of our life peacefully.
