Help Laurie Harvley McCann with severe dementia
Donation protected
Our Mom, Laurie Harvley McCann has gone from being a strong thriving independent woman to being homebound, having her meals prepared for her, and needing help to go to the bathroom and shower. While Laurie does have Medicare she does not have Medicaid and long term memory care is not covered.
She was a retail sales rep traveling all over the state, a musician writing and performing beautiful country music, a crochet master creating amazing blankets for her family, and a wonderful chef making banquets of meals for others. For anyone who knows our Mom, she has always put herself last and others first.
We are losing our Mom to a disease that ravages the brain and systematically dismantles a person’s abilities bit by bit – Frontal Temporal Lobe Dementia (FTD).
Our Dad has been our Mom’s primary caregiver since the onset of her dementia. This has been no short task as he is 72 years old. He also has his own health problems that he hasn’t been able to investigate because of the round the clock care that our Mom requires. He has watched his wife of 30 years forget who he is and become a danger to herself and him. Despite these difficulties, our dad hasn’t given up on her but needs help.
Due to her rapid decline and physical health issues that have arisen, she was taken to the hospital on hospice’s orders. On November 26th, 2021 she was admitted into the hospital and may potentially be transferred to a memory care facility for an evaluation. This will determine what future care and medication is needed. This will take some time and come at a high cost. What we want most is for our mother to live out the time she has left with dignity as every person deserves.
We are relying on this Go Fund Me to help with future in-home care, memory home residential care and after life expenses. Whether it is $5 or $5000 we will humbly and graciously accept all donations. Any excess funds will be donated to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) foundation to help others suffering from this tragic disease.
Our family has never asked for donations, but unfortunately finding her the care she needs has become extremely challenging. Our Mom has dedicated her life to serving others, serving God and being an incredible wife, mother, sister, and Nana. She needs us now more than ever. Please share this Go Fund Me to help us make the most of it in the short time she has. God bless all and thank you for your support.
