Friends and family: I’m reaching out in the most humble manner I possibly can in one of the most trying situations of me, my brothers, and much moreso my mom, Laurie Merritt’s life.
On Sunday, February 13, 2022, my moms neighbor Jenny walked up to moms house to check on her after not having heard from her for over 24 hours. Mom (Laurie) was found on her bathroom floor, in and out of consciousness. She was bleeding from her arms and legs, and was freezing cold. EMTs were immediately called, and she was taken to Washington County hospital in Potosi, MO. While there, she was still awake but severely delirious. She began vomiting blood, so the staff sedated her and intubated her so as to protect her airway.
I flew up from New Orleans as soon as I got the call.
The very first ICU bed available anywhere near by was at Lake Regional in Osage Beach, MO, on Monday February 14. She has been here since then in extremely critical condition.
We’re not entirely sure what all transpired during that time no one could reach her. She has frostbite on all of her toes and a finger which will result in some amount of amputation. She has frostbite on her knees that they’re keeping an eye on but will most likely need plastic surgery. Aside from artificial wounds, she has an infection that is causing acute kidney failure. She’s looking a bit jaundice but they don’t want to do dialysis hoping they kickstart and work on their own.
Right now, we are just hoping and begging for her to wake up. She’s lifted and moved limbs, but the only intentional movements we’ve seen so far was Friday when I asked her several times to open her eyes and look at me (I was standing to her right) and she did do that every time.
This GoFundMe is being made to help out my mom, Laurie Merritt, fully. The goal is to keep her rent paid and lights on while she’s in the hospital so her home doesn’t go into complete disarray and she isn’t evicted while healing from these horrifically traumatic injuries.
My mother also has a few pets that I am wanting to help provide for in the case I can find fosters. Aside from her kids, my moms pets are her world. (If you can help foster in the Sullivan,Missouri area, we’re looking to temporarily home her favorite boy, Prince who is an indoor/outdoor cat, and the sweetest Guinea pig named Mr. Two Face—-pics below).
I will be flying back to New Orleans to work for a week before I fly up and stay with her again until I have to go home again to pay my bills as well as hers.
Thank you for reading this far. It’s been very hard trying to keep everyone updated, so I will be using this platform to give y’all any and all updates.
Please send all of the healing energy and love to my mom. She’s also a God loving woman, so prayers are also welcome.
Me, Reese, Brett, and Mom all appreciate you in advance. This is going to be a very, very long road of recovery.
If you prefer V3nmo or caSh app, reach out to me. Every dollar will go into an account for her.
In true Laurie fashion, I will end this with
PEACE ☮️ LOVE and ETERNAL GROOVINESS
