Help Lauri get the surgery she needs!

Hi, my name is Ashley Komar and I am writing this on behalf of Lauri McDermott. I’ve known her all my life. She is an amazing person and is going through a truly hard time. Usually she works 2-3 jobs at a time but circumstances have changed. This is her story..

I have been off work for just over 2 years. It all started with an excruciating pain in my leg and groin area, leaving me unable to walk or apply pressure to my step…following my leg swelling up like a balloon. I went to the emergency room had an ultrasound and they determined no blood clots. They then discharged me and 2 days later I returned to emerge as my leg turned black and blue and in extreme pain. The second time …the doctor ordered a deep tissue ultra sound and it took months to get in because there is only 2 specialists that do the procedure. They finally did a deep tissue ultrasound and found the two tears in my groin and upper thigh. After 2 years, 4 MRI’s, awaiting the MRI with contrast dye they have now found two tears in my hip and major damage to the nerve endings in my lower back and broken down bodies inside the hip joint. After seeing the surgeon and finally getting the ball rolling, with proper diagnosis, they told me I need injections in my spine and surgery of my hip which has to be done out of town. From delays due to Covid -19 the process has been very slow and mentally stressful, to say the least. What started as two tears in my groin turned much more serious by putting it off for two years due to the medical delays with the pandemic. During this time the pain was so debilitating I wasn’t allowed to return to work. With exhausting all EI benefits and barley getting by on OW, which only covers my rent and no utilities or groceries or extra expenses such as medical let along travel. Now being told to go out of town for surgery it has been a stressful and exhausting 2 years and I have no idea how to get out of this situation Ive been put in. After reaching out to organizations for assistance, exhausting every avenue and being denied help with daily expenses and cost of living I have been left in a desperate situation even using food banks.
