Help Lauretta Complete Her 50-State Journey

From Vashon's Harbor School class of 2025.

In late February, we learned that our Social Studies and geography teacher, Lauretta, was retiring. During a recent class, she casually mentioned that she had been to 49 of the 50 states.

She grew up in a military family and moved around a lot, but she had never been to Maine. It was, in fact, the only state that she had never visited.

Three kids in our class, Vaughn Harmon, Jane Ely, and Amelia Archaro came up with the idea of buying her a trip out to Maine. We are hoping to raise $5,000 for all of the expenses. This would include a nice AirB&B, flights and a rental car for Lauretta and a friend.

I have always thought of Lauretta as one of my best teachers ever. She has pushed me in geography and social studies; this has helped me improve my geography skills. She has taught me so much about the history of the world, things about Mesopotamia, Mesoamerica, Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece, and many other amazing places around the world. - Vaughn

Lauretta is one of my favorite teachers because, she always has a great attitude and is always making some sort of joke during class. She always makes Social Studies more fun. -Jane

Lauretta is an awesome teacher and has helped me with geography and world history. She makes memorizing countries easy and effective. History has been a very big thing and she always makes sure that we are caught up in that matter. -Amelia

*We're actually looking to raise $6,000 for a $5,000 trip to cover the the taxes. The money raised will be considered taxable income for Lauretta.
