On Tuesday, I went to the gynecologist after dealing with ongoing pain and uncertainty. I was diagnosed with Adenomyosis, and they also found a cyst on my left ovary that couldn’t be clearly identified. With my family’s high cancer risk and the new diagnosis, my doctor recommended a partial hysterectomy—removing everything except my ovaries, along with the cyst. I had already been considering this surgery, but hearing the diagnosis and seeing the cyst made everything real. It answered a lot of questions about the pain I’ve been experiencing, but it was still a lot to process.

My doctor was booked two months out, but because of the urgency, they made room for me to have surgery next Wednesday, December 3rd. It’s outpatient, but I won’t be able to work for two weeks. On top of that, Justin is currently on short-term disability, so our household income is already stretched thin. The timing caught us off guard, and we weren’t prepared for the $1,300 out-of-pocket cost that has to be paid before surgery. Waiting isn’t an option—if we delay, my deductible resets and the cost goes up, and with the doctor’s urgency, I need to move forward now to avoid more pain or complications.
