Help Lauren Stay Safely Housed & Supported

We first met Lauren during the COVID pandemic through Good Fairy Marin when she needed urgent community support to stay safe and healthy. Lauren is disabled and lives with Mastocytosis, an undetermined underlying complex medical condition, and other conditions and symptoms that make daily life and employment extremely challenging and require ongoing care by her team of 15 doctors, with ongoing testing, medical appointments, labs, and procedures. Even though she had many needs during and since the pandemic, she has found ways to give back to the Good Fairy community by participating in baking and other activities that benefitted others in spite of her health challenges and deep isolation.

Lauren has lived in her current apartment for 13 years and it is one of the few affordable and stable housing options she has been able to maintain, given her disabilities. Lauren is now facing an urgent housing crisis. Beginning in April 2026, she will be unable to pay her rent and is at risk of losing her home. Her landlord has been exceptionally kind and accommodating—allowing her to pay rent on flexible timelines, including at the first, mid-month, or end of the month—to support her medical limitations.

However, without continued assistance, even this compassionate arrangement cannot continue. This fundraiser is being created now to prevent homelessness and ensure Lauren can remain safely housed and get essentials until a successful resolution of her current Federal disability application. Although she utilizes MediCal for healthcare, SNAP for food assistance, and has previously received single-month rent support through Community Action Marin, Lauren continues to rely on the care and kindness of those around her.

Since she was 12 years old, Lauren has always worked, unfortunately, she cannot now maintain reliable employment due to her health. She previously worked remotely doing medical scheduling and office management, but that position ended when the doctor she worked for passed away in June, 2024. She is currently under the care of approximately 15 doctors who are working to provide her with the best possible quality of life, but her medical limitations make consistent work impossible. Because of her chronic illnesses, her immune system is significantly compromised, which makes her true love—working with children and caregiving—entirely impossible. Lauren optimistically hopes for the day when her health stabilizes and she can once again work full time and support herself.

To survive, Lauren has relied on credit cards and has accumulated significant debt. We have also helped her purchase a car, yet ongoing expenses such as rent, utilities, and car insurance remain overwhelming.

Lauren is also a gifted artist whose creations radiate connection and hope. A Fine Arts graduate, she blends technical mastery with fearless creativity, and her work is alive with color, texture, and movement. One of her recent pieces, an abstract world map, speaks to our shared humanity and the vision of connection across borders. Her art reflects her compassion, curiosity, and profound respect for the world, offering light, healing, and inspiration when it is most needed.

This fundraiser is focused on stabilizing Lauren’s housing beginning in April, helping cover essential living costs such as utilities and insurance, and reducing the financial pressure that threatens her health and safety. Every donation will help ensure Lauren can remain housed, access necessary medical care, and live with dignity and security. Please join us in continuing the spirit of kindness and community that has sustained Lauren through difficult years.

In addition to your support here, if you or someone you know would like to commission a unique piece of artwork, Lauren would be honored to work with you; collaborating on ideas, visiting the paint shop together, and creating a piece that brings her vibrant vision into your home is truly her calling and passion. We’ve included examples of her portfolio as an indication of her creativity and artistic ability.

Thank you for your interest in helping out a community member in need!
