Update on My Recovery Journey

I wanted to share an update and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported me and my family throughout this journey. My liver transplant surgery was a success, and I am incredibly grateful to be here today because of the incredible medical team at UPMC and the unwavering love from those around me.

As many of you know, recovery after a transplant is not always a straight path. In September, I experienced a bout of rejection, which required increased medication and close monitoring. Thankfully, the issue was caught early and the treatment was successful — but it was a reminder of how fragile this process can be.

I am continuing to make progress each day, but I still have a long road ahead. I will need to travel back to Pittsburgh every three months for ongoing testing and appointments to ensure my new liver stays healthy. I also have an additional procedure scheduled for January as part of my continued care and healing.

I want to give a special and deeply heartfelt thank you to my daughter, Lauren, whose courage and selflessness quite literally saved my life. There are no words to express the depth of my gratitude for her gift and her strength.

The ongoing trips, medical care, and recovery needs bring financial challenges that we continue to navigate.
