Hello everyone,
I appreciate you taking the time to read my letter. Back in November, I found out I got accepted into the UCDC internship - this program provides an in-person experience that helps to shape my future career. UC Irvine provides the best in-person experience that will make my resume look even more attractive to employers. In the program, students are flown to Washington D.C. where they interact with other students, participate in seminars and classes, and have the ability to speak with leaders of the country. Along with the seminars, I will take an upper-writing division course that’ll allow me to graduate, and start an additional internship that I will complete through the quarter. This individual internship will be considered a part time job while I complete the other requirements required by the school.
I will be required to complete up to 10 internship applications during my time there, as well as fulfill my required classes and field work experience to graduate. My passion is for the LGBTQ+ community and immigration. What better way to be almost guaranteed a job than to have the experience be near where official policymakers are? This is the best opportunity for me and will help me achieve my dreams. My dreams are to work with organizations who advocate for those who feel as though they do not have a voice or the freedom to be who they are. Those in other countries who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community and fear for their safety, as well as those who struggle to get to the United States due to financial struggles or familial obligations/ religious conflictions. This internship will only provide the next step towards a career that brings me fulfillment in aiding and advocating for those who feel as though they do not belong.
You may be asking why $5,000? Well, this covers food, housing (we will be staying in dorms), transportation, airfare, professional clothing, tuition and books. I have already saved some money from working and funds from college, but this is not enough. I will be leaving March 18thfor my first quarter, and it would be a dream come true if I can make this internship happen. After the internship I will return to Irvine, CA and will have earned my bachelors in Psychological Science and graduate in mid-June. I graciously thank you for your consideration
and for reading about me and my journey. I will be grateful for any help that you can provide.
Sincerely,
Lauren Skinner
