Help Lauren Booras Recover from Guillain-Barre
Donation protected
Hello friends,
My name is Zach and I am reaching out to you for support for my good friend Lauren Booras. Two months ago, she contracted a rare and serious condition called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) after a recent bout of COVID-19. She has been hospitalized in acute care since August 1st- unable to work for an unknown amount of time.
GBS is a devastating disorder because of its sudden and rapid onset of numbness/nerve damage, severe muscle weakness and paralysis. Other symptoms include: difficulty speaking, swallowing and chewing; blurred vision, fatigue and severe pain. There is no known cure, but Lauren has been receiving special blood treatments (IVIG infusions- immunoglobin therapy) and intense physical therapy. Recovery from GBS can be slow- anywhere from a few months to years, leaving most with long-term symptoms.
It has been extremely difficult for Lauren to adjust to this sudden paralysis and dependence on others for help. After she leaves the hospital, she will be moved to a skilled nursing facility to continue therapy, but she will not be able to work at all.
Thank you in advance for your support!
