Thursday morning, October 2, 2025, at approximately 2:37 a.m., a fire broke out at the residence of Lauren Hundt and her father, Jay. Both Lauren and her father were asleep inside the home at the time of the incident.

They were awakened by the smell of smoke and popping noises. They saw each other in the kitchen not knowing where the noise was coming from when the pressure from the fire opened the door to the garage to expose the flames. Reacting on impulse, Jay quickly attempted to extinguish the fire while Lauren exited the home to call 911. Knowing her dad was already susceptible to lung damage (Jay is a stage 3 lung cancer survivor) Lauren had to get her dad out of the house immediately. The fire spread rapidly, and despite their efforts, they were unable to rescue the cats, Fat Kabuki and Hopper. Emergency services were called immediately, and fire crews arrived 15 minutes later to extinguish the blaze.

Unfortunately, the home and all of its contents were completely destroyed. Lauren and her father lost all personal belongings, clothes, household items, and their pets. Both escaped the fire without serious injury, though they experienced shock and emotional distress from the sudden loss.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined. Lauren and her father are temporarily displaced and are working with their insurance provider to begin the recovery process.

Despite the devastating loss of their home and pets, both are deeply grateful to be alive and for the support of neighbors, friends, and the responding fire department.

Any support or assistance is greatly appreciated as these two begin the arduous process of rebuilding their lives.
