Help Laurell's Father Battle Cancer and Recovery
Donation protected
Hello, I am making this gofundme to help my friend’s family in need. My friend Laurell’s father is on quite the medical journey.
On 6/24, he was admitted to the hospital for shortness of breath. He was diagnosed on 6/26 with a saddle pulmonary embolism and multiple smaller pulmonary embolisms in his bilateral lung fields. He had an EKOS procedure and was sent home. 2 days later, he was re-admitted for anemia and gastrointestinal bleeding. An endoscopy was done, which showed Signet Ring Adenocarcinoma. They didn’t find a source of bleeding and sent him home again. He followed up with oncology who confirmed a stomach cancer diagnosis, and he was referred to a Gastric Surgeon at Ochsner’s Hospital in New Orleans, 2 hours away give or take with traffic.
The internal speed sensor on the transmission of his car went out and now it’s shifting hard between 1st and 2nd, it can’t go up hills, so we can’t drive it. We had to rent an SUV and get hit by a hidden $300 fee that left us with very little in our account for the next 3-7 business days until the money is refunded.
After the appointment at Ochsner’s, they scheduled him to return for an EGD and laparoscopy scheduled at 0515 on 8/9. Due to lack of funds, we’ll be leaving home around 0345 in order to make it on time as we cannot afford 2 hotel rooms.
After this, he’ll begin chemotherapy and further treatment for 6 weeks, a break for 2-4 weeks, gastric surgery to remove either the entire or partial stomach, 2-4 weeks of recovery, and 6 more weeks of chemotherapy treatment.
With him being the main bread-winner in the house and being out of work, and Laurell being out of work/working limited hours, things have been extremely stressful, but they are managing to the best of their ability currently.
So, that’s the story and I would love to help my friend’s family as much as possible. Any little bit counts!! The money will be used for food, gas, and monthly bills.
