Help Laura Zimmer Save Her Vision
Donation protected
I am raising funds for my friend Laura Zimmer. Laura is without insurance to cover surgery for a detached retina. On June 27, 2024, while at her daughter's national archery competition, Laura's eye began to feel very odd and appeared like she was looking through a screen. She went to the eye doctor the following Monday and was told the eyeball had ruptured in the back of it. The doctor told her it would heal, but by Friday, her vision had changed greatly, and by the following Monday, she had a complete retinal detachment. This sent her to KU to an eye surgeon. After several hours of surgery, Laura was sent home to heal. The protocol was for her to remain face down for an entire week. By August 19th, it was apparent that her vision had changed again. This time the news was not good! Her retina had detached again. For the second surgery, Laura was told she would need a deposit of $7,000 before they would schedule the surgery. That amount was loaned to her in good faith; however, the medical bills were still piling up. When she went back for her post-op the second time, more scar tissue was forming, and the retina was detaching again. At this point, Laura is undergoing weekly injections in her eye to help get rid of the scar tissue. This procedure is requiring $2,000 upfront before they will begin the injections. She also has to see a specialist for a second opinion. As you can see the medical costs are adding up for this single mom. Please help us raise funds for Laura's vision to be preserved. We appreciate any contributions you can make.
We are fundraising to cover Laura's medical expenses, including surgeries and ongoing treatments.
