Laura needs help to pay final expenses for her brother, Wesley Crow
Laura currently lives in a small town in the Texas Gulf Coast region. Up until the recent deadly storm, she shared her mom's small farmhouse with her older brother Wesley.
- c. 2015: Wesley Crow
Wesley passed, very suddenly, on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 17. An official cause of death is pending from the coroner, and the conditions Wes and Laura endured for days post-storm, shivering in a frigid house with no electricity, including neither heat nor running water, could not have been beneficial to his health.
ABC13Houston interview with Laura, post storm. (sorry about the pre-commercial - it's not ours!)
Laura and Wes both moved back to Galveston County to assist their Mother when Mom fell ill. Ever since their move back, life had been one farming and climate-related challenge after another. For more than a decade, Laura was Mom’s primary caregiver, cooking and cleaning, and both she and Wes took care of the property and animals. Wesley also worked as a skilled and talented carpenter to bring in money. After putting their lives and property back together after Harvey, Mom passed away in June of 2019.
- c. 1990. Clockwise from left: Laura, Timothy, Wesley, Shelly, Mom and three of her grandkids.
Then Covid hit hard, preventing Laura from re-entering the workforce, and drying up Wesley’s carpentry clients. All the while, Laura has tirelessly home-made batches of jams and salsas to sell at a small farmers on Route 6; during 2020, proceeds from Laura’s sales was often the household’s only source of income.
We are only trying to cover the cost of Wesley’s funeral and memorial service. Laura does not have the money to pay for any of Wes’s final expenses, which the funeral home demands be paid as soon as possible. What’s more, because Wes died without a will, his estate must go through the Texas probate courts before anything related to the property can be sold to assist with these expenses.
- c. 2010: Wesley holding Paco puppy.
Any donation would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.
