My name is Laura Daly Fairbrother, and four years ago my life changed overnight when I was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. Before this diagnosis, I worked 60-80 hours a week as a Certified Medication Aide in a residential care facility. I had been working since I was 12, and I took pride in helping others every day. There was no warning—one day at work, I suddenly couldn’t walk without holding onto the walls or my med cart. After a hospital stay, MRIs, and a lumbar puncture, I received the diagnosis that turned my world upside down. I am still reeling from that day.
Since then, MS has affected every part of my life. I can no longer work, and my legs are so impacted that I can’t walk far without assistive devices. My home is not handicap accessible, making it extremely difficult to get around, and I often feel isolated because I can’t go out or do the things I used to love. I have my husband, but I am mostly handling these challenges on my own. The loss of my independence and the ability to support myself has been overwhelming.
I am raising funds to help cover mounting medical bills, make essential modifications to my home, and purchase a mobility scooter or wheelchair. These changes would allow me to move safely and regain some independence in my daily life. Any support will make a real difference as I navigate this new reality and work to adapt to the challenges of MS. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any help you can offer.
