Help Laura Recover from a Stroke and Rebuild Her Life
This is Laura. She’s not just my sister—she’s a bright light in a family of twelve close-knit cousins, the glue in so many of our memories, the one who could make us laugh when we wanted to cry. Her presence has shaped all of our lives in quiet, immeasurable ways. That’s why when she had a stroke earlier this year, it felt like the ground dropped beneath all of us.
It happened so suddenly. One minute she was working, the next she felt dizzy—and then she was being wheeled out of her office on a gurney. For hours in the hospital, we didn’t know what was happening. She was groggy, nearly unresponsive, sleeping as if she hadn’t rested in days. Her speech came in fragments. Her body, once full of energy, barely moved.
Doctors ran test after test. She was shuffled from one wing to the next as specialists tried to piece together the puzzle. All we knew was that she had mentioned a few dizzy spells at work in the weeks leading up. Nothing major. Nothing that seemed urgent. Until suddenly, it was.
The diagnosis was shocking: a stroke caused by a dissected artery—something that can happen after something as simple as a strong cough. Just a few weeks earlier, she had the flu. None of us imagined that such an everyday illness could lead to something so serious.
Since then, Laura’s world has completely changed. She’s been in and out of the hospital, spending weeks in rehabilitation learning to walk again, to speak clearly again, to rebuild her independence piece by piece. Every day brings new challenges, but also small victories. Her voice isn’t always strong, but her sass? That’s still very much intact. She pushes herself relentlessly, never letting go of her determination to heal.
But while her recovery is a full-time battle, life hasn’t paused around her. Without enough tenure at her job, she was let go and left without benefits. Now, on top of healing, she faces mounting medical bills and the daily financial strain of simply trying to live.
Laura has always been the one to show up for others. Now it’s our turn to show up for her.
If you can, please donate to help Laura recover. Every dollar helps cover therapy, medication, and the cost of simply keeping her life afloat while she fights to regain her strength. If you can’t donate, please share her story. Let’s rally around her the way she’s always rallied around us. She deserves a future as full and vibrant as the love she’s poured into all of us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
