Hi, my name is Laura and I am raising funds for a potentially life changing jaw surgery for my severe TMJ, as well as continued treatment for C-PTSD, the culprit behind my TMJ and other musculoskeletal/nervous system issues.
An MRI of my jaw showed considerable structural damage, much of which is irreversible. However, with surgery, botox injections, PT, and 24 hr oral orthopedic appliance therapy, the specialists have told me they could lessen my constant tinnitus, inflammation, migraines, and jaw pain. Any improvement whatsoever would be a blessing. I've been struggling with these symptoms throughout my entire 20's. Now that I am 30, the pain and depression have completely worn me down.
I lost my career as a hair dresser to chronic pain from PTSD, and it has only gotten worse. Treating my TMJ is only the start. I am currently being considered for disability because of how much this has affected my life. I have difficulty dressing myself and completing simple house chores, much less engage in exercise and hobbies I used to enjoy. My confidence is at rock bottom. I have honestly struggled maintaining the will to live for years, and the only reason I am still here today is because of the endless love and support from my fiance, Alek.
Just to get started on my journey, I will be paying $8000 for the TMJ specialist for minimally invasive arthroscopy, steroid injections, and oral appliance therapy. There is a 1/3 chance I will need disc replacement surgery if these methods are not enough, which was not included in the price. This will be a very long-term and expensive problem for me. I will also be seeking continued therapy for my nervous system issues and physical therapy/massage for my all over body pain. Some of this is covered by my insurance, but unfortunately, I must pay out of pocket for jaw surgery on my state insurance. We are looking into other insurance options, but the monthly premiums would end up costing us just as much after we hit the out-of-pocket maximum.
I haven't been able to work since 2018 so Alek has been supporting us. We live paycheck to paycheck and he has student loan payments coming in. There is no way we can afford the surgery on our own without going into even more debt. We are desperate to get started on this journey, as my medical problems have sucked the joy out of lives for a long time now. We have stagnated in fear and frustration for years, unable to make plans for our future together.
I humbly ask for any assistance you can provide, whether it be a small donation or sharing my fundraiser on social media. Peace and Love to all who read this, and thank you so much for your time.
