Hello, my name is Laura Castaño. I am originally from Colombia, and as a child, it was always my dream to study abroad and grow academically in a place with strong Christian values. By God's grace, that dream has come true, and I’m now pursuing my Master’s in IT and Management at Dallas Baptist University (DBU) in the USA.
My path to DBU wasn’t straightforward. After finishing school, I was uncertain about my next steps, but through my church, I learned about Christ for the Nations Institute (CFNI), where my life and faith were transformed. It was during my time at CFNI that I first heard about DBU, and I knew right away that this was the university where I was meant to study. I took a leap of faith, and God made the way for me to be here.
Studying in the USA has been a life changing experience. It hasn’t come without its challenges, like being away from my family and adjusting to a new language and culture, but I’ve grown in ways I never imagined. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Business Administration, and now I’m enrolled in DBU’s Master’s program in IT and Management, which aligns with my passion for technology and leadership.
However, being an international student comes with its own set of challenges. Limited scholarship opportunities, combined with the financial hardships my family has faced in Colombia, have made it difficult to cover the costs of my education. My family has endured serious challenges, including extortion threats that forced them to relocate and start over. With the current political and economic situation in Colombia, they are unable to support me financially.
As a result, I find myself responsible for covering my tuition and living expenses on my own. I work on campus to support myself, but between paying for rent and groceries, I unfortunately don’t have enough left to cover my tuition. At the moment, I have an outstanding balance of nearly $6,000 for this semester, with another $6,000 due for the Spring 2025 semester.
While the financial challenge is significant, I am trusting in God's provision and doing everything I can to stay focused on Him and my studies. With your support, I know I can continue pursuing my dreams and finish this important chapter of my academic journey.
I know that God has called me to be here, and I believe that He will provide the resources I need to finish my education. I am asking for your prayers and support. If you are able to contribute, no matter how small, it will make a huge difference in my ability to continue pursuing my dreams. Once I graduate, I am committed to using the knowledge and skills I gain to make a positive impact in the world and to serve others in the name of Christ.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering supporting me in this crucial moment of my academic journey. Your prayers and donations will not only help me achieve my goals but will also allow me to honor God with my life and education.
