Help Laura Go for the Jugular! (SURGERY)

Hi there. We are raising money for our dear friend, Laura. Laura is an amazing human, dog/cat mom, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin FRIEND, teammate and Doctor of Physical Therapy! She is the best of the best, and anyone lucky enough to know her, knows that. She is the baddest of all the bad asses! She  has overcome, defied all odds and broken every barrier, time and time again, literally her entire life .  There has never been a challenge she hasn’t faced head on, and this surgery is no exception. 

Laura underwent a cochlear implant surgery in 2016 to improve her hearing, but unfortunately she ended up experiencing many bizarre symptoms post-surgery.   They replaced the internal piece in 2018, and it was realized that it wasn’t the cochlear implant causing the multitude of unpleasant symptoms.  After, hopping doctor to doctor and relentlessly advocating for herself, she found a great team that diagnosed her with intracranial hypertension with poor venous outflow that was triggered by the cochlear implant surgery. 

 

This intracranial hypertension led to a series of daily symptoms such as:  severe, daily headaches, tinnitus, wooziness dysautonomia symptoms, leaving it impossible to wear her cochlear implant and significantly limiting her physical mobility and activity tolerance.  

 

Laura will be having jugular decompression surgery on January 10th/11th, 2022 in NYC.  The goal of this surgery is to eliminate or decrease the daily symptoms that Laura experiences (listed in paragraph above). This surgery is essential to giving Laura the best opportunity to return to as close to her prior level of function as possible.  The road to get here has been long and hard fought; let’s band together to help Laura have the very best chance at getting her life back!  

*We are asking for funds because as many of you know, Laura has been unable to work since May 2019.   This surgery is complex and unable to be completed in Laura’s state of residence. Due to these factors, Laura will be financially responsible for 20% of all costs incurred from this surgery.  This is unfortunate, unfair, and absurd; but these are Laura’s current circumstances.
