To all respected friends, family, and understanding people we have not yet met. Imagine a situation where your world is slowly falling apart before your eyes because of a private phone call. Your heart beats faster, and you feel sick in your stomach. How did this bad luck happen to me? What have I done to deserve this pain? This can't be true, right? Do I really have cancer? This must be a mistake. Now, think about how you would share this news with your close friends, family, and dearest loved ones. Would you be able to show the right feelings? Would you have the money to pay for this? Would you give in to fear? Think about the chance that you were in their place and found out that your mother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, or grandmother was the one telling you that the thing you thought was not important was actually the worst and scariest thing you could think of. It was scary to get one of the worst phone calls of my life, about our amazing, caring, and special mother, Laura Jessee, for our family; this bad dream has become our reality. We are scared; she is more than just the woman who gave birth to us, she is our support. She is the thing that keeps our family together. This news is, to say the least, one of the hardest, most annoying, and saddest times in my life. Our mother is, as many people know, one of the most amazing people to ever live. If you need someone to talk to when you're upset, my mother is that person. If you need advice, she is there for you. If you need to say how you feel without being stopped and just share your thoughts, she is ready to listen. Her family, friends, and people she knows share a feeling, knowing her strong care for others, often putting their needs and wants before her own.

Before she was told she had uterine cancer, Laura had to retire early because her kidneys were not working well. This made her lose her job at Loves, where she always smiled and said hello to everyone. Then, she had to ask for disability payments. After a few years, she was approved for disability. Even though my mother is officially disabled and cannot work, the money she gets from retirement is not enough to pay for good health care. She makes too much money to get Medicare, so the small amount of health care she can pay for barely covers some of her doctor bills and medicine. Because of this, there is no way to pay for the costs of cancer treatment. Did you know that one round of chemotherapy can cost $50,000.00? We are asking you to help us today. We would be very thankful for any help you can give! Even a small word of support to others who can help would be good. No matter what, the road ahead is scary for her. Think about the money problems she will have. These years should be her best, when she is retired, but she cannot enjoy them.
