A New Chapter: Help our Journey After the Eaton Canyon Wildfire

Our names are Laura and Jonathan, and we lost our beloved home in the fire that decimated our community of Altadena. We have one daughter, Samantha (1 year old), and we lived with Jonathan’s mother, Rebecca.

We were blessed with our home in 2021 after countless setbacks and moments of doubt—it felt like a dream come true. We fell in love with its towering trees, the spacious yard, and especially the sunroom, which quickly became the heart of our home. This home wasn’t just a structure—it was where our lives unfolded, where we shared laughter with friends, built memories with family, and, most importantly, where we welcomed our greatest joy, our daughter, Samantha.

Samantha transformed our house into a vibrant, lively home. Her laughter filled every room, and her curiosity breathed new life into every corner. She inspired us to create spaces just for her. For Christmas, she had a holiday filled with wonder as she rode her rocking horse and buried herself under her beloved stuffed animals. She adored watching the horses, birds, and squirrels from our window, exploring the backyard with her grandma, listening to her mom read stories in her mini library, and dancing to the piano as her dad played for her. These weren’t just moments; they were the heartbeat of our home—memories we will always cherish.

We began 2025 with many plans for our home, unaware of the significant loss that was about to come. The wildfire swept through North Altadena, leaving behind only a handful of homes among fields of ash. It’s surreal to be writing these words, and it’s heartbreaking to see so many in our community suffering from this devastation. The fire took everything—our home, our belongings, and the familiar spaces that had become part of who we are. Yet, in the midst of this devastation, we found ourselves deeply grateful: grateful for our safety, for the love that surrounds us, and for the faith that continues to guide us. We choose to see this as an opportunity to refocus on what truly matters.

While we are still figuring out what’s next, we know we need help. We grieve our home while cherishing the beautiful memories it gave us, and we walk alongside our community, many of whom are also navigating the loss of their homes. As we figure out our new normal, we do so knowing that we are not alone.

We are incredibly grateful for the kindness and support from family, friends, and coworkers. Your overwhelming love has reminded us that the bond we share matters more than any material loss. Any help you can provide would mean the world to us!

Your support gives us strength and hope as we begin this long journey. Thank you for standing with us during this incredibly challenging time. Your generosity means more to us than words can express.
