What Happened?
In 2007 my sister Laura Allen woke up one day and couldn't feel one of her legs. After seeing the doctor and extensive testing, Laura was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). At the time, none of us had any idea what MS was or if there was treatment available. What we found was that it was a progressive disease that would slowly attack her nervous system and would directly affect her muscle movement. Basically, over time, her nerves wouldn't be able to control her muscles and among other things, she wouldn't be able to walk on her own.
Although it didn't happen immediately, that is exactly what happened.
The Current Situation?
After falling multiple times, breaking bones and fighting hard to recover over and over, She needs a breakthrough! Laura is not ready to give in to this disease and needs her body to work so that she can go back to work to support herself.
Her Need?
After trying all the prescribed medications (all of which having severe possible side affects including death and none of which have helped), Laura's next step in the fight is going through stem cell therapy. In this therapy, they will remove stem cells from her body, clean them and inject them back into her body. It sounds odd but many MS patients have gone through this process and have had amazing results. This procedure IS NOT covered by her insurance and that is why we are asking for your help.
Time frame?
We need to raise $21000 by the end of this month.
About Laura? Laura is a kind and amazing person, sister, mother, co-worker and friend. Her attitude during her fight has been extraordinary and inspires so many of us around her.
