Early Monday morning, around 12:30–1:00 AM, the life of Laura C. Bernal Williams changed completely.

Laura suddenly woke up to find her apartment filled with smoke. A fire had started in the living room of her third-floor apartment, quickly filling the space with smoke and forcing her to react immediately.

In the middle of the emergency, Laura had to run out of the apartment without even putting on shoes, unable to save any of her belongings. Everything she owned was left behind and destroyed by the fire.

After inhaling a large amount of smoke, Laura began experiencing severe coughing and breathing difficulties. Around 3:00 AM, an ambulance arrived to assist her. Paramedics had to administer oxygen due to the smoke inhalation.

After receiving medical attention, Laura was transported to a Red Cross emergency shelter, where she is currently staying while she tries to recover from this devastating event.

Laura is a person deeply passionate about serving others. For more than 22 years, she has dedicated her life to working in a children’s hospital, building her career as a medical interpreter. Through her work, she has helped countless families and healthcare professionals communicate, ensuring that children and their parents receive the medical care they need, especially when language barriers exist.

Laura is also a loving mother of four children. One of them, her 15-year-old son Jonathan, was living with her in the apartment that caught fire. This tragedy has deeply affected both of them, as they lost all of their belongings in the fire.

Today Laura and Jonathan are facing an incredibly difficult situation. They lost everything — clothing, shoes, personal items, and essential belongings.

This fundraiser is being created to help Laura and her son start over and rebuild their lives, covering basic needs such as:

food

transportation

and help securing a new place to live

La madrugada del lunes, alrededor de las 12:30–1:00 AM, la vida de Laura C. Bernal Williams cambió por completo.

Laura se despertó repentinamente al notar que su apartamento estaba lleno de humo. El incendio había comenzado en la sala de su apartamento ubicado en el tercer piso, llenando rápidamente el lugar de humo y obligándola a reaccionar de inmediato.

En medio de la emergencia, Laura tuvo que salir corriendo del apartamento sin siquiera ponerse zapatos, sin poder rescatar ninguna de sus pertenencias. Todo lo que tenía quedó atrás y fue destruido por el incendio.

Después de inhalar una gran cantidad de humo, Laura comenzó a sufrir una fuerte tos y dificultad para respirar. Aproximadamente a las 3:00 de la madrugada, una ambulancia llegó para atenderla. Los paramédicos tuvieron que administrarle oxígeno debido a la inhalación de humo.

Después de recibir atención médica, Laura fue trasladada a un refugio de emergencia de la Cruz Roja, donde se encuentra temporalmente mientras intenta recuperarse de esta devastadora situación.

Laura es una persona profundamente apasionada por servir a los demás. Durante más de 22 años ha dedicado su vida a trabajar en un hospital de niños, desarrollando su carrera como intérprete médico. A través de su trabajo ha ayudado a innumerables familias y profesionales de la salud a comunicarse, asegurándose de que los niños y sus padres reciban la atención médica que necesitan, especialmente cuando enfrentan barreras de idioma.

Además, Laura es madre de cuatro hijos. Uno de ellos, su hijo Jonathan, de 15 años, vivía con ella en el apartamento que se incendió. Esta tragedia ha afectado profundamente a ambos, ya que perdieron todas sus pertenencias en el incendio.

Hoy Laura y Jonathan enfrentan una situación extremadamente difícil. Perdieron absolutamente todo: ropa, zapatos, artículos personales y pertenencias esenciales.

Estamos creando esta campaña para ayudarles a comenzar de nuevo y reconstruir sus vidas, cubriendo necesidades básicas como:
