Hi everyone, my name is Jayla, and I’m the founder of Apt 105 Books, a pop-up bookstore dedicated to celebrating Black stories and creating spaces for community through books. What started as a small idea has grown into something really special. Over the past few months, Apt 105 Books has hosted pop-ups at local businesses, partnered with Black-owned spaces, supported local authors, and connected readers across the DMV. Every event has reminded me how powerful it is to gather around books and stories. Now, I’m ready to take the next step.
The vision for Apt 105 has always been to become a fully mobile bookstore — one that can travel to neighborhoods, markets, festivals, and community events. Instead of only popping up occasionally, the bookstore could show up consistently and reach even more readers. To bring that vision to life, I’m raising funds to purchase and renovate an enclosed trailer that will become the Apt 105 Mobile Bookstore. This trailer will allow Apt 105 Books to bring books to more communities across the DMV, expand access to literature that centers Black voices and experiences, host mobile pop-ups, book events, and author activations, support independent and emerging authors, and create a unique community space centered around reading and storytelling.
I'm asking for your support to help make the Apt 105 Mobile Bookstore a reality. Every contribution will help bring books, stories, and community to more people across the DMV. Thank you for believing in this vision and helping Apt 105 Books grow.
