Help Us Launch Madagascar’s First SteamFresh Fries & Create Local Jobs
My name is Patrick. Together with my wife, we are launching the first SteamFresh French Fries project in Madagascar. It is a small but ambitious food-processing initiative that produces steam-pre-cooked French fries in 1-kg bags, ready to fry in just a few minutes.
Our vision is practical and simple.
We want to provide restaurants, fast-food vendors and hotels with a cleaner, faster and more affordable alternative to imported frozen fries. We want to help kitchen teams save time by removing the long work of peeling and cutting potatoes. We also want to reduce their oil and electricity use thanks to faster cooking.
And we want to make life easier for households who prepare meals weekly, organize small events or simply prefer keeping some practical food stock at home.
At the same time, this project helps create stable work opportunities for young people and supports the local agricultural sector by buying potatoes directly from Malagasy farmers.
A growing local interest
Over the past few years, we shared our passion for potatoes and food quality with a small local community. Our Facebook page now gathers more than 3,400 followers, including individuals, families and professionals in food businesses.
This shows a real interest and a real local demand for a cleaner and more reliable solution like SteamFresh French Fries.
The Problem We Want to Solve
French fries are very popular in Madagascar, both in homes and restaurants, but many challenges remain:
• Potatoes are often wasted because of poor storage conditions
• Many small businesses do not have the time, staff or equipment to wash, peel and pre-cook large quantities
• Many fries are prepared in difficult conditions, with high oil consumption and inconsistent results
• Youth unemployment remains high, and young people need stable entry-level jobs
There is a clear need for a cleaner, more efficient and more reliable local solution.
Our Solution: SteamFresh French Fries – Madagascar
Our model is simple, clean and focused on quality.
We buy potatoes directly from local farmers. We wash them, peel them, cut them with professional equipment and steam-pre-cook them under controlled conditions. After cooking, the fries are cooled and packed in 1-kg food-grade bags, ready for delivery to restaurants, food vendors, hotels and families.
The steam-pre-cooking technique makes a real difference. It allows our fries to:
• cook faster
• store better
• use less oil
• maintain a clean and consistent taste
This project begins small, but our vision is long term. With the right support, we can build a stable and reliable local business that creates jobs, reduces waste, strengthens local farming and improves food quality for our community.
How Your Donation Will Be Used
Our goal is 6,500 USD. This will allow us to move from small test batches to a stable production line.
Your support will help us secure:
• production equipment (cutter, steam cooker, spinner, sealing unit)
• an automatic potato-peeling machine
• two freezers for fresh and frozen storage
• two delivery motorcycles
• packaging materials and the first stock of raw materials
• potato storage rental and one month of basic operating costs
What your support means in practical terms
20 USD helps buy potatoes for the next production batch
50 USD covers packaging for 40 to 50 bags
100 USD supports part of a worker’s salary
250 USD funds a full day of production
500 USD helps us move closer to key equipment
Every contribution helps us move forward.
Who I Am and Why This Matters to Me
I spent the past years working in community development, entrepreneurship and support for small local initiatives in Madagascar. I have seen how difficult it can be for young people to find stable work and how fragile small businesses are without the right tools.
I was trained through respected international programs such as:
• the Mandela Washington Fellowship (USA)
• the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program
• BYU PathwayConnect
• LDS Self-Reliance programs
• a Master’s Degree in Business Management and Banking
These experiences taught me the importance of practical skills, discipline and community-focused entrepreneurship.
I also have the privilege of working on this project with my wife. Through past experiences, both good and challenging, I learned that business is not only about money. It is about building something meaningful, something that becomes part of our life story and something that creates value for others.
This project follows that vision.
It is about turning local products into quality food, creating jobs, supporting families and restaurants, and proving that small, well-managed local businesses can grow and make a positive difference.
