Help Launch Red Threads: A MMIWG2S Database
Donation protected
Hello friends and relatives,
My name is Jennifer L. Randall. My colleagues (Daniel Oxendine, Dominque Burleson, Unmai Malcolm-Arokiasamy, and Terry Beyer) and I have created Red Threads: A MMIWG2S Database, a nonprofit initiative to honor and share the stories of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S) — particularly in the Southeast, where these stories too often go unseen and unrecorded.
Mission Statement
We aim to honor and share the stories of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people by building an inclusive digital archive that keeps their memories alive, raises awareness, and supports advocacy.
This work is rooted in love, accountability, and the urgent need for visibility. Indigenous families in the Southeast—and across Turtle Island—deserve to have their loved ones’ stories documented, remembered, and fought for. This project is about remembrance, truth-telling, and justice.
To make this vision real, we’re asking for your support to raise $1,097 — the amount needed to officially establish Red Threads as a legal nonprofit organization.
What Your Donation Will Pay For
We are committed to full transparency. Here is a detailed breakdown of where every dollar will go:
PO Box Rental (1 year) – for secure nonprofit mailing address - $192
South Carolina Incorporation Filing – to legally form our nonprofit - $110
Annual SC Filing Fee - $15
Certified Copy of Incorporation – required for 501(c)(3) application - $10
IRS 501(c)(3) Filing (Form 1023-EZ) – to become tax-exempt - $600
SC Charitable Registration – so we can legally fundraise - $50
Domain Name Registration - $20
Banking Setup Fees – to open a nonprofit bank account - $100
TOTAL
$1,097
What Happens Next
Once we meet this initial startup goal, we will be able to:
- Legally register Red Threads as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
- Accept tax-deductible donations
- Begin building a comprehensive, culturally informed archival repository of MMIWG2S cases from across Turtle Island
- Provide resources and support to families and communities
How You Can Help
This is a grassroots effort, and every dollar counts. Whether you can donate $5 or $50, your support gets us one step closer to doing this work the right way — with integrity, care, and community input.
Even if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this campaign with others who care about justice and remembrance for Indigenous communities.
In the meantime, if you know of a case that should be included in our current or future database, please don’t hesitate to email us. We are already collecting stories and would be honored to hear from you.
Thank you for helping us launch this critical work.
In care and solidarity,
Jennifer L. Randall
