Hi! My name is Yasaman Nouri, and I am the Artist and Creator of Pomegranar.
What started off as a fun project where I created mixed media collages of pomegranate people has now turned into a full-fledged Virtual Art Gallery employing eight artists and engaging over 20 volunteers. Our expanding team needs your help in order to bring our next exhibit to life.
Pomegranar is presented in four installments: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. It tells a year’s story through original artwork, short films, and music. Pomegranar showcases narratives of the ordinary in a Surrealist universe featuring pomegranate people. Along with new artwork, each seasonal exhibit brings a unique take on the themes of love, loss, belonging, and togetherness while apart.
As a Persian-Canadian artist, I draw upon my Persian background as part of the inspiration behind the exhibit. Pomegranates (or anar/انار in Persian) are a cherished fruit and an important symbol in my culture. The name Pomegranar combines both the English and Persian words to signify the coexistence of both identities within me. Our first exhibit, Spring, premiered around Norouz, which is the Persian celebration of receiving the new year, and our final Winter exhibit will take place around Shabe Yalda, which is the celebration of the longest night of the year, the Winter Solstice, and where pomegranates are an essential part of our table.
In order to keep our exhibits free to the public, we rely on donations to cover our production costs and artist fees. Your donations go directly towards props, costumes, set dressing, camera and lighting equipment, photo developing and scanning, editing software, web hosting, domain, and so much more. Artist fees go towards our incredible team, who are working hard and producing fantastic work both “onstage” and “offstage.”
Our talented team members include:
Lyssa Tino, as our Web Designer and Developer
Jimmy Nguyen, as our Composer
Dylan Pun, as our Film Director
Marc De Acetis, as our Director of Photography
Domenique Arnold, as our Production Designer
Melanie Petriw, as our Social Media Manager and Assistant Producer
Sofia Demidova, as our Fundraising and Outreach Coordinator and Accessibility Coordinator
Myself as the Artist and Filmmaker, Executive Producer, and Project Manager
And lastly our team includes all our wonderful volunteers who have dedicated their time and expertise to this project.
In order to keep pomegranar free and operating at its full potential and continue to share new and exciting art, we kindly ask for donations. We could not continue this project without your generous help, and we can’t wait for you to see what we have in store for our next exhibit.
Thank you so much for supporting pomegranar and our team of emerging artists. Please share this campaign and help us bring this virtual exhibit to life!
