I’m Lily, founder of One People—a social enterprise startup with a bold vision: to create a future where everyone has the opportunity not just to survive but to thrive.

One People certifies the humanitarian impact of businesses and nonprofits. Our mission is to connect businesses and nonprofits for mutual benefit—empowering them to give better, serve better, and collectively maximize lasting impact.

By leveraging the power of businesses to support humanitarian causes and connecting them with the most accountable and high-impact nonprofits, we aim to create a world where socially responsible businesses, effective nonprofits, and individuals everywhere thrive.

The Problem We’re Solving

Many businesses and nonprofits face challenges not only in facilitating aligned partnerships but also in meeting increasing stakeholder demands for measurable social impact, trust, and transparency.

One People addresses these challenges by providing certifications for both businesses and nonprofits, grounded in holistic metrics that build trust, foster growth, and drive measurable impact.

What Inspired Me

I deeply believe in the power of empowerment.

In 2016, helping people help themselves was my mission while raising funds for a humanitarian organization in Indonesia. It frustrated me to witness corporate dollars funding another organization in the area that addressed the same systemic problems with short-term fixes.

In 2021, I was sharing the corporate giving story for a 1% for the Planet company when the vision hit me: what about 1% for the People?! In disbelief that it didn’t already exist, I was inspired to create it—not to compete, but to expand the possibilities for impact in our deeply interconnected world.

But I couldn’t help accelerate funds to humanitarian causes without first ensuring that recipient nonprofits could demonstrate their accountability, transparency, and responsiveness to the people they serve and work with. Without these vital foundations, the potential for long-term impact is diminished.

When I explored existing nonprofit assessments and certifications, I found significant limitations. These evaluations provide only a partial or misleading picture, making it difficult for many top-tier nonprofits to stand out and for businesses and donors to confidently invest in high-impact solutions.

That’s where One People comes in. We bridge these gaps with the first-ever humanitarian giving certification for businesses and a uniquely comprehensive certification for nonprofits, focused on empowerment and lasting impact.
