The Millikan Drone Soccer Club is a club at Millikan High School in Long Beach, California, formed by QUEST pathway students, that aims to establish a competitive drone soccer team.
Drone soccer is a new team sport that started in Korea, and has recently been gaining traction in the US. It involves two five player teams, including 1 striker, 1 forward, and 3 defenders, competing against one another to score the most points by flying their quadcopter drone through their opponents goal ring.
At Millikan High School, many students have opted to set their sights on academics. However, we are still passionate about STEM opportunities which can be more difficult to find at Millikan. This is why we’ve set out to start a drone soccer program at our school.
After raising over $6,000 to fund a team of pilots, Millikan Drone Soccer has practiced weekly and competed in multiple local competitions. With your help, this program will continue to flourish and expand, fostering an interest for engineering and aerospace in a student population that doesn’t have access to many STEM resources.
