Hi, I’m Katelyn — a local Lakes Region mom of three boys and the founder of Lakes Region Diaper Exchange.

I started this organization after realizing something heartbreaking: families in our own community are being forced to choose between buying diapers or buying groceries.

What many people don’t realize is that diapers are not covered by SNAP or WIC. Babies go through 8–12 diapers every single day, which can cost families $80–$100 per month for just one child. For parents already struggling with rent, childcare, rising grocery prices, and medical bills, this becomes an impossible burden.

When families can’t afford diapers, the consequences ripple outward. Babies may sit in soiled diapers longer, increasing the risk of infections and rashes. Many daycare centers require parents to provide diapers, so when families run out, parents can miss work or even lose childcare entirely. No parent should ever have to experience that kind of stress — especially over something as basic as keeping their baby clean and healthy.

Lakes Region Diaper Exchange was created to help change that.

Our mission is to support families across Laconia, Tilton, Meredith, Belmont, Gilford, and surrounding communities by providing access to essential baby supplies. We distribute diapers in all sizes, wipes, diaper cream, and baby hygiene products, with the future goal of offering formula support as well.

Our first official Diaper Exchange Event will take place on March 28th at Lakes Region LAXX Edge in Laconia, and this is just the beginning. My vision is to grow this into a fully registered nonprofit that provides consistent, dignified access to essential baby supplies for families across the Lakes Region.
