Help Launch Historic lgbt milWALKee App

Donación protegida
Milwaukee's LGBTQ history is rich, diverse and fabulous, but few know much about it. It isn't taught in schools. It isn't shared from one generation to the next. It isn't visible in our cityscape.

Our history has been one of erasure. Not anymore.

A dream team of local LGBTQ talent has come together to create a historic walking tour mobile app. The app will tell the history of local LGBTQ people, organizations and events through physical sites mapped into virtual walking tours. Our goal is to launch the app June 2, 2022 to coincide with Pridefest.

Each site will have its own mini-documentary to share meaningful stories. Stories like when Josie Carter led 70 LGBTQ Milwaukeeans in defending their refuge, the Black Nite bar, in the summer of 1961. They succeeded that night and inspired a movement. But the Black Nite was leveled and remains an empty lot to this day. We are happy to share the Black Nite’s video with you here.

What better way to come out of the pandemic darkness than by shining light on our glittery past and glorious community? We have always been around and we always will be. Never doubt how terribly boring this city would be without us.

Please help us put history in your hand and fabulousness at your feet by donating to lgbt milWALKee today!
