About Us
Hi! I'm Danielle, and together with my wife Ruthie, we founded Get Lit Books & Things. Our journey has been anything but ordinary. In July of 2021, during the height of COVID, we celebrated our love with a small wedding ceremony. However, just seven months later, our world was turned upside down when I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian cancer. The rest of 2022 was a tough battle. Thankfully, I received a clean bill of health, but our lives were forever changed.
Our Dream
We realized that life is unpredictable, and if cancer taught us anything, it's that "Someday" may never come. We decided to make our dreams a reality today. Thus, the vision for Get Lit Books & Things was born. We dreamed of creating a bookstore for women, queers, people of color, and bibliophiles alike. A place that shares stories from and for the communities we live in. We wanted a center for community events, a space for learning, sharing, and growing. A fun, safe, welcoming, and celebratory place for all the things that we are!
Our Ask
The first year of any business is the hardest, and we are asking for your support to help us through the first six months.
Every $95 raised keeps us open one day!
We were scheduled to open on June 2, 2024, but on May 15th, our opening was delayed because our building failed inspection through no fault of our own. While the landlord is diligently helping us to move forward, this delay has not only pushed back our dream but has also created an unexpected financial burden.
We are seeking funds to help us cover the costs for the first six months of operations and to keep the dream alive during our delayed opening. Your support will help us make Get Lit Books & Things a reality and create a vibrant community space for all.
